Today I rode to the Medical and Dental Library to pick up some books. On my way back I stopped to pick some flowers from the curb by the road. There was a man working in the garden behind and he asked me whether I was picking the flowers for a salad. Turns out the heads of nasturtiums are edible - just make sure there aren't any bugs or bees in it before you put it in your mouth.

We got talking. His name was Konrad, after Joseph Konrad because his mother wanted to be a writer. But she just ended up looking after him and his three siblings. He was a teacher in Wiluna for a while and sponsors a nutrition program for Aboriginal kids. He also told me, as I was his neighbour, I could come into his garden anytime if I wanted a fresh vegetable snack.

Sticking around to talk to this guy kind of made my day.
